Privacy Policy

The Kindertransport Association (KTA) places a high priority on protecting your privacy. This privacy policy was created in order to demonstrate the Kindertransport Association’s firm commitment to the privacy of our members and website users. The KTA does not collect personal information about visitors to our website unless you choose to provide it to us. This policy explains what types of information are collected by the Kindertransport Association website, kindertransport.org, and how this information is used.

Information Collected

We collect two types of information about our website visitors: 1) anonymous information that is automatically collected from all visitors to our site, and 2) personally identifiable information that you knowingly and voluntarily submit to us (“personal information”).

What Personally Identifiable Information is Collected

Kindertransport Association members that register for kindertransport.org and individuals that sign up to receive KTA e-communications voluntarily provide us with contact information (such as name and e-mail address). We may use this information for specific, limited purposes. You may always “opt out,” either now or at any time in the future, if you do not wish to receive our messages.

The KTA only collects personal information that you voluntarily provide to us. Personal information we may collect includes your name, postal address, e-mail address, preferences for types of information, or the name, address or e-mail address of a friend to whom you wish us to send information or a gift. A specific type of personal information that may be collected is financial information, as further described below.

The Kindertransport Association may collect personal information when you:

  • Register to attend a KTA  event
  • Complete a KTA form
  • Join or renew your membership with the KTA
  • Make a tribute or gift membership
  • Make a contribution to the KTA
  • Sign up for our e-mail network or one of our e-newsletters
  • Send correspondence to our webmaster or other KTA staff member
  • Order items available from the KTA Bookstore or Shop
  • Participate in one of our online surveys
  • Post a comment to our website

By providing personal information on our website, you are giving consent to the Kindertransport Association to use the information for the stated purpose, such as to:

  • Respond to your message
  • Help us get you the information you have requested
  • Provide you the requested service
  • Allow you to select or change user preferences
  • Confirm your contribution
  • Send you receipts for tax-deductible gifts
  • Personalize the content you see based on the activities and choices you have made

If you decide to give us personal information for a particular purpose, we may contact you about other KTA programs or opportunities to support KTA programs. For example, if you do one of the activities on our website, such as post a comment, you may be given the option to subscribe to our e-newsletters or to donate funds in support of KTA programs. You will always have an immediate opportunity to decline further communication.

If you make a tribute gift, the KTA may provide your name and postal address to the family of the person who was honored by your gift. If you wish that your name or address not be shared for this purpose, please contact our membership chair at membership@kindertransport.org.

Donors who have provided the KTA with an e-mail address or whose postal address is matched to an e-mail address will receive the KTA’s general news e-newsletter. If you wish to decline the e-communication benefits, please follow one of the opt-out procedures described in our communications to you.

Our website may have pages on which members of the public are invited to comment or provide feedback, such as message boards. Any information (comments, photos, sounds) posted on these pages becomes public information. Please exercise caution when deciding to disclose personal information.

Financial Information

Financial information is personally identifiable information you submit that may include the amount of a gift or payment, preferred payment method, a credit card number, debit tracking number, or other information required to complete a financial transaction. The Kindertransport Association will not disclose financial information except as necessary to fulfill the donation or order request. We collect financial information in a secure manner and discard such information after processing is complete. We employ error-checking procedures to make certain transactions are processed in an accurate, complete, and timely manner. The KTA also obtains independent internal and external audits to ensure the privacy, security, and appropriateness of these transactions.

IP addresses

The Kindertransport Association uses your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server, to administer kindertransport.org, and for statistical metrics used to track website visitor traffic.

Cookies

Kindertransport.org uses “cookie” messages to automatically help provide better services. They remind us who you are and your preferences for our website based on what you’ve done and told us before. The “cookie” is placed in your computer and is read when you come back to our website. Cookies let us take you to the information and features you’re particularly interested in. Email Privacy

The Kindertransport Association does not provide, sell, or rent email addresses to anyone outside the organization.

Kindertransport.org includes links to external websites. These links do not fall under the kindertransport.org domain, and the Kindertransport Association is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of external websites. Your use of any linked website is solely at your own risk.

Security

The personal information we collect is stored on a secured server. We use industry-standard encryption technologies to prevent your personal and financial information from being seen as it travels over the Internet to our servers. We routinely evaluate our security and the security of our third-party service providers to monitor and upgrade security measures.

Modifications

We may amend this privacy policy from time to time; please review it periodically. We maintain the option to modify this privacy at any time by electronic notice posted on our website.
