DESCRIPTION:\n\nThe Holocaust Memorial Park is a public memorial park locat
 ed at the water's edge between Emmons Avenue and Shore Boulevard in Sheeps
 head Bay Brooklyn. The Memorial Park is the only public Holocaust memorial
  park in New York City.\n\nThe park\, established in 1985 by Mayor Edward 
 Koch\, and taken care of by The Holocaust Memorial Committee\, consists of
  a central sculpture topped by a bronze eternal flame surrounded by 234 gr
 anite markers\, inscribed with names\, places\, and historical events rela
 ted to the Holocaust. These are intended to evoke tombstones with broken e
 dges to represent the shattered lives of Holocaust survivors. Each is diff
 erent in form and size\, to recall the diversity of those persecuted by th
 e Nazis.\n\nA memorial to the Kindertransports\, created by the KTA\, will
  be revealed at the annual gathering at the park on Sunday June 23.\n\n
