 e speaking at the opening.\n\nThe representation of the state of North Rhi
 ne-Westphalia to the federal government\, the embassy of the Kingdom of Be
 lgium in Germany and the Jawne learning and memorial site in Cologne invit
 e you to discover the almost unknown history of the Kindertransports to Be
 lgium.\n\nAround 1\,000 Jewish children from Germany and Austria reached B
 elgium via Cologne in 1938 and 1939 with the help of Kindertransports - a 
 temporary rescue from anti-Semitic persecution\, as in May 1940 the German
  Wehrmacht marched into Belgium. The exhibition\, prepared by the Jawne Le
 arning and Memorial Site\, focuses on the history of these Kindertransport
 s and the girls and boys who were "temporarily" saved by them\, using elev
 en biographies. The artist Ludwig Dunkel is presenting a new work on the 
 occasion of the exhibition.\n\nThe exhibition is a contribution to commemo
 rating the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War with the Al
 lied victory over Nazi Germany. It will be opened as part of a celebratory
  evening event on March 12.\n\nYou can register for the opening event usin
