DESCRIPTION:Join The Wiener Holocaust Library in London to mark the publica
 tion of Andrea Hammel’s important new book on the Kindertransport child 
 rescue scheme\, based on extensive new research.\n\nThe first train of the
  Kindertransport 1938/39 arrived in the UK almost exactly 85 years ago. Th
 e scheme has long been celebrated as a British humanitarian success and is
  known to the wider British public. But research has shown that the circum
 stances of the scheme and its implementation were complex and not always m
 otivated by altruism. Children were separated from their parents\; the sch
 eme lacked governmental support\; it relied on the enthusiasm of private c
 itizens and struggling charities.\n\nIn this talk Andrea Hammel will show 
 what really happened using her research into governmental and organisation
