Josephine, Alice, and Ella Eberstark were sent out by their parents Salamon and Sidonia Eberstark from Trstena, Orava in Czechoslovakia, with the last-but-one Kindertransport, organized by Nicolas Winton, a young English banker.

Parents, grandparents, aunts and cousins were all murdered in Auschwitz.

The beautiful little synagogue in Trstena is shown here as it was — and as two of the sisters found it after the war. It had been converted into a grain storage.
